And Poteau is a smaller city known for upscale homes, the surrounding scenic beauty, and its proximity to the mountains.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

You’ll find numerous shopping plazas and a diverse choice of eateries in Downtown Durant. Right on Main Street, Roma serves homemade Italian dishes, including baked pasta, specialty pizzas, parmigiana sandwiches, and fresh seafood dishes. The family-owned restaurant has been a local favorite since it opened in 2005.

For American fare, Roadhouse Bar and Grill serves classic comfort foods, plus steak and seafood plates. Pair dinner with one of their handcrafted cocktails or a glass from their extensive wine list. Originally a bar on 9th Street when they first opened in 1997, it has moved and expanded into a premier eatery in the historic downtown area.

For Japanese fare, R Hibachi/Sushi Bar and Grill serves classic sushi rolls, hibachi dinners, and other Asian favorites. The Tokyo-trained sushi chef brings a fusion of classic and modern techniques to their inventive dishes, and the restaurant is highly rated for its delicious food and friendly service.

Overlooking Lake Taxoma, The Island is an open-air restaurant and venue right on Highport Marina. They offer an eclectic menu of Southwest cuisine, Tex-Mex favorites, burgers, sandwiches, and salads. Have one of their colorful and refreshing drinks while soaking in lake views, or come in for live music on the weekends.

Things to Do

Southeastern Oklahoma is home to several wineries and breweries. Enjoy a tour and tasting at local vineyards, including Knotted Rope Winery and Fish Tales Winery and Vineyards. You can also head to Beavers Bend Brewery for some local craft beers.

For outdoor enthusiasts, you can explore nature at Beavers Bend State Park and Nature Center or spend the day in the waters of Broken Bow Lake. Activities include hiking along scenic trails, kayaking down the river, and trout fishing.

For golf enthusiasts, Chickasaw Pointe Golf Club features a par-72 championship course that can accommodate players of all skill levels. It’s ranked as one of the top three courses in Oklahoma and can host private parties, corporate outings, or a professionally run tournament.
